The Low-Budget Traveler's Guide • A Short Introduction for the Traveler Who Roams a Lot with Little Money
First of all, let’s get to know each other! I am Foxy—Roxanne—a passionate girl in my thirties. I love adventures and discovering new destinations so much that I'm constantly on the move. And, even if some people find it hard to believe, I'm just like you. I haven’t inherited a fortune, nor have I won the lottery and gotten rich overnight. Instead, I save money for months in advance and hunt for the best deals on flights and accommodation.
When I’m at home, I’m busy writing on the blog about my past travels while also planning my next adventures. Of course, irresistible travel deals pop up all the time, and it’s impossible for me to take advantage of them all. That’s why every great find—from vacation ideas to flight deals I dig up daily—gets shared on the website and on my Facebook and Instagram (@foxy.travel.mtl) page.
The deals I post every day are the ones I would book myself, but I know they won’t appeal to everyone, and that’s perfectly fine. However, if you’re open-minded and at least willing to take a look, you might end up traveling much more than before—and for a lot less money.
That’s why I want to share the Low-Budget Traveler’s Principles, the same guidelines I follow when planning my own trips. If these principles resonate with you, my travel deals are definitely for you!
The Low-Budget Traveler’s Principles
→ You enjoy organizing your own trips—from booking your flights to reserving your hotel room or arranging airport transfers. Well, guess what? I love doing that too!
→ Layovers, even one or two, don’t scare you. Instead, you see them as an opportunity—whether it’s saving money, exploring a new city, or even spending that extra cash on duty-free treats. After all, when choosing between a new perfume or paying $$$ more for a direct flight, the decision isn’t that hard, right?

→ You don’t have a strong preference when it comes to airlines and have no problem flying with low-cost carriers or lesser-known airlines—as long as they have a decent rating and good reviews on Skytrax.
→ You always set aside money for flights and vacations, not necessarily with a specific trip in mind, but just in case something comes up. And let’s be honest—something always does!
→ You’ve slept at least once in an airport—stretched out across three metal chairs, using your backpack as a pillow.
→ You avoid checking in luggage—not just because you hate wasting time at the baggage carousel, but because you don’t see the point in packing your entire apartment for a trip. You can fit everything you need into a backpack. Plus, traveling light is a huge advantage when you have short layovers (under 2 hours) between flights.
→ You’ve Googled “How to book cheap flights” at least twice. Remember, persistence is key—it's the only way to actually score those deals. Or, of course, you could just check FoxSaga.com and let me do the searching for you!
→ When it comes to airport transfers, you don’t mind if they take a bit longer—as long as they’re the cheapest option. After all, the journey matters just as much as the destination.
→ You don’t have extravagant demands when booking a hotel room. Sure, you check reviews on Booking, look at ratings, cleanliness, and proximity to the city center or metro—but that’s about it. At the end of the day, you don’t plan on spending much time in your room anyway, right?
→ If hotels are too pricey, you have no problem opting for a budget-friendly alternative like a well-rated hostel or an Airbnb stay.
→ You don’t seek out expensive restaurants and have no problem grabbing a late breakfast at a local café, trying street food from market stalls, or enjoying a quick bite at a fast-food spot. Every now and then, you treat yourself to a meal at a traditional restaurant to complete your experience.
→ You don’t need a tour guide to show you around—you prefer to explore on your own, wandering through the streets and soaking in the atmosphere. It’s the best way to truly feel the pulse of a place, experience its unique energy, and stumble upon hidden gems that don’t even make it into travel guides.
→ You prefer using public transportation when you travel, riding alongside locals, which makes you feel like one of them.

Pros and Cons of Planning Your Own Vacation
Organizing a trip on your own comes with plenty of valuable advantages, as I’ve already mentioned. However, to be 100% honest and transparent, I’ll also highlight the downsides. Yes, there are a few, and it’s important to consider them before committing to this kind of adventure.
Advantages
- Perhaps the most important advantage is that the total cost of your trip depends entirely on you and your choices, and it can end up being 50-70% cheaper—definitely not a small amount!
- The accommodations are top-notch. When I recommend something on the site, it’s always a place I would stay at myself or have already tested.
- Since you’re not tied to anyone else’s schedule, you can create your itinerary exactly the way you want it.
- You avoid hidden fees or any additional charges, such as airport fees, service charges, or tour guide tips.
- You save significantly by booking flight deals, and within your budget, you can select a hotel with the best ratings.
- By tweaking your travel dates a bit, you can even plan a longer vacation without exceeding your budget.
Disadvantages
- If you didn’t like your hotel room or if your flight was delayed, the only ones you can complain to are the hotel you stayed at or the airline you flew with.
- No one will be waiting for you at the destination airport to take you to your hotel, so the transfer will be your responsibility.
- The travel periods in our offers might not always fit your schedule, so you need to be flexible with both the dates and the destination.
- Some vacation deals are for off-season periods, which are much cheaper, but the weather might be unpredictable. We always try to inform you about the weather for those dates, but we recommend you check it yourself before booking, just to be safe.
- Occasionally, flights may involve an overnight layover in a connection city. While we usually try to avoid these, sometimes the unbeatable price makes it worth it.
